John Morogiello is a playwright in residence at the Maryland State Arts Council.  Prior to that he spent four years in residence at Baltimore's Center Stage.  John's short play MEN AND PARTS was a finalist for the 2002 Heideman Award at Actor's Theatre of Louisville, where the play wasproduced.  The play was filmed in Los Angeles under the title HAPPY HOUR, and will be released later this year.  In 1996, he was named Baltimore  Magazine's Best Up and Coming Playwright, and was awarded a Kennedy Center Fellowship of the Americas.  Under the fellowship, John developed his drama CHANCELLORSVILLE at Canadian Stage Company, the Stratford Shakespeare Festival, and the Kennedy Center.  In 2001, another one-act, THE MATCHMAKER'S GUIDE TO CONTROLLING THE ELEMENTS, appeared at the National Theatre in Washington, DC. John's adaptation of GIANNI SCHICCHI has received numerous productions in New York and Maryland.  A farce, THE ANSWER, had an extended run off-off Broadway at the Belmont Italian American Playhouse in 1994.  John has done dramaturgical and script work for Long Wharf Theatre, Arena Stage, Center Stage, and the Belmont Italian American Playhouse.  John's essays have been published in American Theatre and Dramatics, as well as in study guides for Boston's Huntington Theatre Company.
