In the Shadow of the Glen

John Millington Synge was born in 1871 near Dublin, Ireland.  IN THE SHADOW OF THE GLEN was the first produced play by the always-controversial Synge, whose PLAYBOY OF THE WESTERN WORLD (now considered a classic of the modern theatre) sparked riots when first produced in 1907.  Synge died in 1909 of Hodgkin's disease, just six years after the production of his first play.
